Hearty Hamburger Soup

Hearty Hamburger Soup

This is a much played with recipe. I like a nice hearty, chunky soup. Lucky me, that I hadn't posted this one yet when the RSC #9 ingredients list was revealed. Because this already had 5 ingredients from it! My work was done for entry #1. This became my most popular recipe in the contest. Spot 6 when sorted by rating. Hope you try it and love it too! **Several reviewers have used broth in place of the water which will give you a more intense flavor...The reason I didn't have it in the ingredients is because most onion soup mixes have beef bouillon in them.**

Scents for the Holidays

Scents for the Holidays

This will make your house smell SOOOOOOO "Holiday"!! I have made this for 4 years in a row, at Christmas time. It is neat, because you make everything in a saucepan.........turn on your burner when you want "that wonderful Holiday aroma throughout your house", then you turn of your burner, but leave the pan for whenever you want another whiff....then you just your burner back on. NOTE: ALWAYS make sure there is water in the pan!!!! If the water level gets low, you just add water...I keep mine going all during the Holidays, although I have added a few more spices, according to how strong it still smells, after a week of using. ALso, one year it went moldy!!!! Guess I had been using too long.

Fancy Schmancy Citrus Granita

Fancy Schmancy Citrus Granita

A wildly refreshing dessert that will have your mouth singing! A unique and delicious granita and it's so easy to make! This granita is a fancy schmancy way to end a meal, especially Italian. The citrus flavors refresh the palatte, while the basil gives the fresh taste of ItalyWhen our team thought of Italy, basil came right to mind. It just shouts Italy! We thought putting it in a frozen granita would be fancy, unique and delicious! Made up by the Fancy Feinschmeckers Team for the Italian Frozen Dessert Challenge in the Zaar World Tour #4. Each team member picked an ingredient and told why they picked it: mliss29-I've always liked lemons, even since I was a little kid - Wildflower-I love orange anything! And the blossoms are so pretty, too! Alskann- Some things you don't scrimp on; pure vanilla is one of the most complex flavors in the world, its unique flavor and aroma will blend beautifully with the fresh, tart citrus flavors and the herbal essence of the basil to make this granita both flavorful and aromatic - Celticevergreen-grapefruit juice-because it's my favorite flavor and to me is like tasting liquid sunshine - Nasseh-water-It is the foundation for so many things we love & enjoy. It is in almost every food, in some form or another luvinlif2k- I'm liking the slice of lime as an optional garnish. It should look lovely with the sprig of basil and if you like your granita a bit more tart, just squeeze some lime on your granita or rub your spoon with the lime before each bite - Heydarl-Basil Sprig, as I love basil & would like to be decorative - Sharon123-I picked salt! In Matthew 5:13 it says,"Ye are the salt of the earth". Salt is also thrown over the shoulder for good luck. In ancient times, salt was precious and used to preserve meats, fish, etc. , and it also heightens the flavor of many foods. It sure works in this recpe!

Kittencal's Technique for Perfect Easy-Peel Hard-Boiled Eggs

Kittencal's Technique for Perfect Easy-Peel Hard-Boiled Eggs

The one and only method I use for perfect hard-boiled eggs and the only one you will use also, this is a no-fail method! --- don't omit the vinegar it makes peeling the eggs easier, it doesn't matter what amount of water or eggs that you use just make certain that you add in about 2 teaspoons of vinegar, I don't even measure I just pour the vinegar into the water from the bottle the exact 2 teaspoons does not really matter, of course use as many eggs as you wish and the exact amount of ice is not necessary you can use more.

Cincinnati Chili

Cincinnati Chili

I got this recipe from a college friend who grew up right outside of Cincinnati. The original recipe calls for twice as much ground beef and no beans, but I prefer the combination. This chili has an interesting blend of flavors and you can easily adjust amounts to your liking - I tend to measure all the spices with a generous hand! Don't be afraid to make it spicy because serving it on spaghetti sort of spreads out the heat. I have also added chopped bell peppers to this to add color, with good results. This freezes well.A couple of notes - browning the ground beef ahead of time works ok, but the consistency will be much different than if you crumble the raw meat into the water at the start (chunky vs. a kind of thickened sauce consistency). Also, this will work in a crock pot, but the end result is too thin and watery for my taste.

Teriyaki Onion Burgers

Teriyaki Onion Burgers

These are so simple but packed with flavour even with only a few ingredients. I served these on buns with some cheese, caramelised onions, lettuce & tomato chutney, yummo. Found in a flier from my local butcher. You may not need the water especially if using meat that has been frozen, use your own judgment.

Pork Chops Hunter's Style

Pork Chops Hunter's Style

This was my favorite dish when I was a kid. I also made it often when we were first married, and my husband still requests it! It's great with chicken breast, too. Just cut the baking time to 30 minutes. Serve with rice. UPDATE: I'm editing the amount of water in this recipe to 1/4 cup. If you're NOT using very lean chops, you can omit it all together.

Garlic Butter Rice

Garlic Butter Rice

I love rice. I also love garlic and cook with it a lot. It took a few tries to get the correct measurements for this recipe in order to submit it. I don't always use measurements when I cook. This is very easy to make. This is a very moist and buttery rice with a good, but not overpowering garlic flavor. For rice with less moisture, use less water and for a less garlicky flavor, use less garlic. I read in an article on an internet medical site, that if garlic is cooked too long, it loses some of its healthful benefits. They said not to cook garlic any longer than 3-6 minutes. I have also noticed that it loses some of its flavor if it's cooked too long. Therefore, I add the garlic towards the end of the cooking time to get more of a garlic flavor and more healthful benefits from the garlic. I will sometimes have this for breakfast with a fried egg. I just put some of the rice on a plate and put a fried egg on it and mix it together. It is really good that way. I also serve the rice with gravy over it as a side dish with some meat. It is also good just by itself. The chicken bouillon is optional but it adds to the flavor of the rice. If you have to or are watching your sodium intake, you might want to omit the bouillon or use less of it. I have found that jasmine rice gives the best results for this recipe but you can also use white rice. Prep and cooking times are estimates. NOTE: Due to the first review, I have edited this recipe. Harvard Beets for the Freezer (or Right Away)

Harvard Beets for the Freezer (or Right Away)

The only way to eat beets! When I harvest my beets in the fall I always make up a few batches of this for the freezer-they're just as good reheated and it's a wonderful quick veggie for winter! To prepare fresh beets, I cover them with water, cook for 30 minutes to an hour till tender, then peel and cube. This recipe is a Swedish family tradition. The long cooking time includes the time the beets need to marinate.
